Spanish for doctors (Medical Spanish). A Spanish course for health care professionals. It is designed for doctors, nurses and others who work in the medical sector.

This course is entirely unique and created ‘in house’ by the staff of TILDE. It is aimed primarily at medical doctors, but other health professionals, such as nurses, auxiliaries etc., would undoubtedly benefit.

Spanish for doctorsThe Spanish for Doctors course deepens the study of the language through medical related subjects; general vocabulary of the body, medicines and drugs, symptoms, diagnoses, preventions, common illnesses and treatments. In each subject or theme, the student will learn relevant vocabulary and practice essential communication skills; giving instructions, recommendations, how to inform and how to calm patients are just a few of the practical objectives that this course sets out to achieve. There is no fixed order in which we address the subject matter, but rather the themes are taught according to particular professional interests at the request of the student.

This course is only recommended for students who have completed a basic level course. The classes are given on an individual, one-on-one basis and can be combined with the Foundation course.

With the strong desire to cover this hitherto neglected area of teaching Spanish to foreign students, and with increasing demand from professionals in the medical field, we’ve created this brand new course that has been the fruit of our long teaching experience and arduous work in preparation with the collaboration of medical professionals from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid.


FOR STUDENTS:
Who are medical or health professionals, Doctors, Nurses of all nationalities.

COURSE LEVEL:
It is recommended that the student has done at least the basic level as stipulated by the European Marking System.

COURSE CONTENTS:
The course attempts to gain the most profit from the student’s efforts to learn and better their level of Spanish through medical related subjects:
General vocabulary of the human body, medicines and drugs, symptoms, diagnoses, prevention of illness, common illnesses, treatments etc., as well as a general look at the Spanish Public Health System.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
- That the student would be capable of understanding and being understood in real-life situations encountered in their places of work.

- To know basic medical related vocabulary.

- To revise the most important grammatical structures and their functions in order to communicate correctly in Spanish in a medical environment.

- To gain a better understanding of the Spanish Public Health System

TEACHING STAFF:
This course is given by a professional of Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (E/LE), highly experienced in more general Spanish, but also in teaching the language for more specific, professional ends.




GENERAL CONTENTS OF THE COMPLETE COURSE "Spanish for doctors":

The open and modular structure of the course allows the contents to be addressed according to the student's interests, requirements and needs. Although there is a proposed sequence in which to approach the course content (general terminology, prevention, illness), this by no means suggests increasing linguistic or grammatical difficulty.

Throughout the lessons there will be grammatical annotations and continual practice in order to work on the different expressive skills.

In a separate section, running parallel with the main bulk of the course there is a compendium of the most important structures and expressions, a continuous reference resource for the student.

Within the open structure of this course, with the exception of the above parallel section, which can be done at any time, there is an explanation of the Spanish Health System. In addition to its informative value, this insight provides a useful tool to put forward ideas for debate, express opinions and establish comparisons etc.
